Winter Wonderland Bucket List

By Kathy Witt

Two words: Traverse City. This northern Michigan gem is stone-cold gorgeous in wintertime, its wooded trails blanketed in snow, just waiting for cross-country skiers to put down tracks. Sure, some places have higher hills, others have a glitzier profile, but TC has an enormous range of winter recreation – indoors and out – plus fewer crowds and reasonable off-season pricing. Skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, fat-tire biking, tubing, proximity to the 4,500-acre Shanty Creek Resorts, downtown boutiques winking with white lights, fireside wine tastings and more make this foodie haven with its eateries, wineries and breweries a come-hither winter wonderland. Visit in February for the Traverse City Winter Microbrew & Music Festival and the Traverse City Winter Comedy Arts Festival.
